Cleopatra reportedly bathed in milk to maintain her beauty.

Men and women have used numerous methods and treatments to improve the signs of aging and restore facial beauty. Skin aging is a complex process with many mechanisms involved. Avoiding excess sun exposure and not smoking are two effective methods to counteract skin deterioration. Stress, alcohol. food intake and sleeping habits are some other factors. A healthy lifestyle is obviously important.

All patients are assessed regarding suitability for any of our treatments by Dr Hegde. Every patient is treated by Dr Hegde.

Facial Rejuvenation

Successful aesthetic treatment requires the choice of treatment to be individualised to each person. Treatment will be specifically tailored to you.

A few well chosen areas for rejuvenation may be significant in improving a face that appears drawn, tired or even sad.

Micro-needling with TGA listed device SkinPen

We are delighted to introduce SkinPen our new micro-needling treatments. SkinPen is the first FDA-cleared micro-needling device.

SkinPen® Precision is a medical device used for the treatment of surgical scars and acne
scars through Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT). Collagen Induction Therapy is a minimally invasive procedure involving the movement of a pen-like device with an attached sterile, disposable cartridge tip containing small needles over the skin’s surface. The microneedles puncture the skin and create tiny micro injuries that are not visible to the naked eye. These tiny punctures stimulate
tissue regeneration through the process called Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) which improves the appearance of the skin.
The process of CIT is instigated through the breaking of the old and damaged strands of collagen in target tissues via microneedling. This leads to the production of new collagen, which improves the structure and function of the skin while improving its
appearance.  By utilising CIT, skin concerns such as acne scars and surgical scars may be treated. Cosmetic concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles and scars may also be improved. It generally takes at least up to 3 months before a physical improvement can be seen,  and multiple treatments may be required to achieve desirable results. I

Fillers

Dr Hegde is an expert in the use of stabilised non-animal origin gels. Treating patients for over 20 years has given her a high level of clinical expertise.  Dr. Hegde will discuss with you, which of our dermal fillers are best suited to treat your particular problem areas.

Fillers are specially designed to rejuvenate, fill out folds, wrinkles, contour and create volume. Common areas treated are lips, cheeks, restoring some of the volume loss created by aging or the nasolabial lines.

These fillers are introduced delicately into the skin to create a filling effect. Fillers are specially designed to rejuvenate, fill out folds, wrinkles, contour and create volume. Dermal fillers can also enhance cheekbones and plump up the lips.

We use non-permanent fillers for tissue augmentation. Stabilised gels of non-animal origin, are our fillers of choice. These fillers have been around since the mid-1990s and have demonstrated good efficacy and safety profiles with extensive clinical testing.

Our dermal fillers are safe, easy to apply, and require no allergy testing The results are excellent and the product feels natural under the skin. Certain areas are prone to bruising but there is often little downtime after the procedure. Many of our patients experience no pain at all and minimum or no side effects.

Your face will look rejuvenated.

Muscle relaxants

Most people entering our rooms have knowledge of facial muscle relaxants from the popular press and their own reading. We will discuss how these relaxants work and what is best for you.

Common areas treated, are the frown or glabella, forehead lines, and crows feet. A worried angry look in repose can be treated by relaxing the muscles involved. Occasionally, fillers may also be needed to fill out very deep lines. Muscle relaxants are also used to treat excessive underarm sweating and teeth grinding.

Muscle relaxants are temporary and usually last 3 to 4 months. Usually within three to five days, you will start to notice a reduction in muscle contraction (wrinkles) with the greatest reduction after two weeks. Some of the wrinkles will disappear when the muscle is weakened, and others will reduce as the skin remodels over several weeks. Untreated muscles will be able to move, as usual, allowing normal facial expression. The effects of the wrinkle treatment last for different lengths of time in different people The majority of people will require a repeat treatment every three to five months. Some people find the treatment will last longer each time and others may have the occasional shorter duration of effect. Muscle relaxant injections are simple, quick and minimally invasive with little if any discomfort. Your face will have a refreshed appearance.

Anti-wrinkle injections are proven to be safe and have long been used in Australia with great success. As with all medical procedures, it is important that you discuss with us any prior medical conditions that you may have.

Superficial Peels

All our peels are bespoke and designed by Dr Anita Hegde. A series of peels performed at intervals of 2-4 weeks, creates softness and often a 'dewy bloom'.

Our peels are superficial, requiring little or no time away from work, generally. Your skin will feel clean and fresh initially. With repeated peels over several weeks, skin starts to feel softer, and smoother.

Skin peeling is a procedure aimed at removing old skin components, stimulating the function of newly formed skin structures and to treat superficial changes on the surface of the skin. Usually, several treatments are required. Pre-treatment preparation of the skin may be required.

Most people experience a mild tingling sensation at the time of the peel. There is no pain and minimal if any discomfort.

Sclerotherapy

You may suffer from aching legs. Spider leg veins may be the cause of these symptoms.

You may be self-conscious and reluctant to wear shorts or a swimsuit. Considering how wonderful the Australian climate is, this is a great pity. I have heard this many times in my years of treating leg veins.

Spider veins are mainly a cosmetic concern but sometimes indicate an underlying varicose vein disease, You will be assessed by Dr Hegde before your first treatment.

Sclerotherapy or microsclerotherapy is considered the gold standard in treatment of spider veins of the legs.

Sclerotherapy is the treatment of superficial or spider veins by expertly injecting a sclerosing agent into the veins. Treatments require multiple, tiny pinpricks into spider veins using very fine needles. The small spider veins begin to fade as the body gradually removes the successfully sclerosed veins. Some veins may require several treatment sessions to sclerose. In many patients, sclerotherapy can relieve the symptoms caused by varicose veins. Medical grade, graduated compression stockings are worn for several days after each treatment. Usually, a number of treatments are required, spaced several weeks apart. With this procedure, veins can be dealt with at an earlier stage, helping to prevent further complications.

Teeth grinding/clenching. Bruxism.

Bruxism is an involuntary clenching or grinding of teeth. Abnormal tooth wear or fractures may occur. This may happen while you sleep or unconsciously while you are awake.

Who does it affect

It is estimated to affect between 50-95% of the population.

How teeth grinding affects us

  • Overly sensitive teeth
  • Chipped or cracked teeth,
  • Facial pain
  • Tense facial and jaw muscles
  • Headaches
  • Dislocation of the jaw
  • Locking of the jaw
  • Tooth enamel may wear away.
  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) may be clicky or pop.
  • Cheek damage
  • Smooth or flat areas created on the biting surfaces of the teeth

What treatment do we offer at MedicaSkin Clinic

A muscle relaxant is injected into the masseter muscles. These muscles cause the jaw to clench. We have devised a protocol based on 20+ years of injecting masseters. A number of spaced treatments are required.

You can still move your jaw because the masseter is a large muscle, but you won’t have as much tension in the muscles that cause clenching and discomfort.

The anti-wrinkle injection takes a few weeks to take effect. You may notice some weakness when you chew, over the first week or so

We follow-up at around 1 month and assess treatment results.

Maintenance

The muscle relaxant gradually wears off and repeat treatment is required. After sufficiently weakening the masseters, maintenance treatments may occur once or twice a year.

If you think you may be experiencing pain from a TMJ disorder, it is imperative that you speak to a health professional for a proper diagnosis and personalised recommendations before going ahead with any treatments or remedies.

Your healthcare provider will assess the best treatment based on:

  • How old you are
  • Your overall health and medical history
  • How well you can handle specific medicines, procedures, or therapies
  • Your opinion or preference

In most cases, bruxism can be successfully treated.

Anaesthesia

Most procedures require little or no anaesthesia.

Topical anaesthetic cream or local anaesthetic is readily available if required.

Detailed information will be given to you about all our procedures.
